Program Description

The paralegal studies program trains students for employment, helping to deliver legal services under the supervision of a practicing lawyer.

Currently employed paralegals seeking to update their skills will also find this program valuable.

This online degree program is approved by the American Bar Association, which requires that at least 10 credit hours be taken in person. Student will work with their advisor to satisfy this requirement either in Fairbanks or through a local institution.

It is intended to be a two-year program. Fees below are based on full-time status.

Careers In Which Graduates Excel

This program will prepare you to enter the legal profession as a qualified paralegal. Paralegals are in high demand in private law offices, within local, state and federal agencies, and within legal departments of large corporations.

Paralegals are qualified to perform rudimentary legal research and produce drafts of letters, office memoranda, pleadings, contracts, wills and similar documents. Paralegals conduct client and witness interviews, engage in basic fact-finding and investigation, and assist in trial preparation and discovery. At all times paralegals remain cognizant of the ethical responsibilities owed by the supervising lawyer to clients, other lawyers and the court system.
